The first round of matches last night were a great success; played in a really good friendly yet competitive manner. For the record, Newbury Juniors beat Chiltern 2-1, and Newbury Juniors and Chiltern beat Newbury PC (Padworth College) 2-0. Padworth started a bit slowly, and they played without any experienced player. As the evening went on, they improved enormously, and whoever plays them next had better look out. There were quite a lot of spectators, and a number of them commented on how good the standard was, considering how many players had never played in a match before, so well done to everyone.

There were quite a few young and inexperienced players last night, so the decision was made to allow such players to serve from anywhere more than (about) 5 metres from the net. This meant that teams were not penalised because their players could not serve from nine metres.
